A longa caminhada à cidadania: Dia Mundial de Conscientização do Autismo

A I CAMINHADA DE CONSCIENTIZAÇÃO DO AUTISMO realizada em Guaratinguetá trouxe imagens e vozes de familiares de pessoas com autismo, representantes da sociedade civil e profissionais.
Na manhã de domingo, 02 de Abril de 2017, todos os presentes eram cidadãos “vestindo a camisa” da igualdade social e do respeito à diversidade.

A LAW FOR AUTISM – PL 1631/11 – NATIONAL CONGRESS, BRASILIA, BRASIL

I AM FOR THE APPROVAL OF PL No. 1631/11.

I AM FOR THE REPORT OF THE REPRESENTATIVE IN CONGRESS MARA GABRILLI.

I have a son, who is now 15 years old. As only mothers and fathers of people with autism, I can say loud and clear that the state of neglect for families and people with autism in Brazil is shameful and unacceptable. The journey of families of individuals with autism in Brazil is very similar, but the more socially and economically precarious the family is, the worse the conditions of treatment and education get to be. Parentes face the absence of diagnosis, the inadequate therapies, education and assistance. Therefore, there is a total lack of health infrastructure, education and assistance, which is folded in precarious conditions of mobility and no transition places to make it possible to stay in areas of the city. Transport is the key word always absent in each and every city, unless you can afford a car. Yes, this is also a disturbing factor and that leads to the impossibility of membres of the families to keep on working while they need to move to distant points inside and outside their own cities, to allow some kind of minimally qualified care (if any). Regular schools, when accept autistic students demand a close care of the family, otherwise the children are received (obligated by the law) and then ignored. The spreeches of teachers and principals is always correct. Their actions are mediocrity.

Many mothers and family members quit their jobs to give minimal attention to the autist, to research and to go back and forth though the the cities chasing therapies and guidance.When institutions are found eligible, the costs are often prohibitive, and … NO VACANCIES … Hundreds of families have been going through the same situation, having their children treated as outcasts of society.The boldness of State is such that there are actions won in court against states and municipalities, which have been ignored for years. Autism is a developmental disorder that affects the social, communication and behavior, which may or may not have intellectual disabilities, each individual has their own identity, characteristics that should be evaluated and treated appropriately, criteria, consistency and constancy.

The National Congress is about to vote for the PL 1631/11. As representatives elected by the people, answering the claims of the families forgotten for their rights, the people with autism and their families expecto JUSTICE! We are also citizens! Rights have been violated in public and private, in the local, state and federal instances.

LET’S SAY ENOUGH!! Vote to approve the PL No. 1631/11 is to comply with a duty to equip families to fight for dignity for their children. WE DEMAND JUSTICE AND THE APPROVAL OF THE PROJECTO WHICH WILL GIVE SUPPORTE TO PUBLIC POLICIES MEETING AUTISTICS’ REQUIREMENTS.
